Though it is not exactly standard operating procedure in a jailhouse lineup, more than a few criminals have been busted based on bad breath. Recently, an all-points-bulletin was released in Southern California for an attacker whose identifying features included halitosis.

A man who assaulted a woman outside the Tuolumne City Park area reportedly had extremely powerful bad breath, according to the Modesto Bee. He was described as being nearly six feet tall and having halitosis that smelled like chemicals or tobacco.

While it may seem like a long shot that the assailant will be caught - no update on the case has since been printed - it wouldn't be first time a criminal was described based on his or her breath.

A bank robber in the Ferndale area of Detroit was recognized for his overpowering oral odor when he robbed the same banking branch twice, Asylum UK reports. The man, who became known as the Bad Breath Bandit, also had crooked yellow teeth and a distinctive body odor, according to local police.

The bank's tellers said they immediately knew who the man was during the second hold-up, due to his uniquely terrible breath.

For those law-abiding citizens who want to avoid being recognizable at first smell, rinsing with a specialty breath freshening mouthwash may get rid of any lingering halitosis.
