When you think about what it takes to beat bad breath, ice cream may not be the first product that springs to mind. That said, New Zealand businessman Mark Scorgie believes that one day it will be, since he recently teamed up with Blis Technologies to create BLIS K12 probiotic ice cream.
Scorgie told the Otago Times that his product could make it easier for parents to convince children to keep their mouths clean and fight their halitosis, since ice cream may be a bit harder for kids to turn down than a toothbrush.
The Kiwi entrepreneur started testing his special ice cream blend a year ago, after Blis, another New Zealand firm, approached Scorgie about joining forces to make a food product that replaces odor- and infection-causing bacteria with less harmful varieties.
Since that time, the ice cream has been picked up at schools, hospitals and nursing homes, where the desire for a low-fat ice cream option - the BLIS K12 brand has just 10.5 percent milk fat, compared to the typical 30 percent - is crossed with the need for good oral health.
Where can U.S. consumers find this brand? Currently, it is only available through the oral hygiene line TheraBreath.
