Whitey Bulger may be one of the most notorious gangsters to remain on the lam. A relic of a bygone age of Mafioso dominance, the alleged leader of Boston's Winter Hill Gang has eluded law enforcement for years. However, if he is ever to be apprehended, it may be his extreme halitosis that gives him away.
Throughout his purported career in crime he was known to have persistent bad breath. Recently, the FBI began taking out advertisements in medical and dental journals in the hopes that a dentist may recognize him as he seeks treatment for the problem, according to the Boston Herald.
The tactic has so far yielded few leads. However, law enforcement officials believe it is a path worth pursuing. Follow a run-in with police in Tulsa, Oklahoma several years that failed to result in an arrest, officers described Bulger as having "extreme bad breath." Had they been aware of this condition before their encounter, police may have been able to make an arrest.
