Bad breath can make a Valentine's Day date take a nosedive

By Dr. Harold Katz   - BAD BREATH EXPERT
February 11, 2011

SUMMARY: Rarely is it as important to eliminate bad breath as it is on Valentine's Day. Other than getting caught under the mistletoe, there is hardly another holiday tradition as kiss-oriented as going on a date on February 14. While fresh breath may not make you the world's best kisser, halitosis could make you seem like the worst.

Rarely is it as important to eliminate bad breath as it is on Valentine's Day. Other than getting caught under the mistletoe, there is hardly another holiday tradition as kiss-oriented as going on a date on February 14. While fresh breath may not make you the world's best kisser, halitosis could make you seem like the worst.

The Toronto Sun recommends brushing thoroughly before a date, rather than taking a typical breath mint. Other than specialty breath freshening mints that neutralize odor, most mints merely give oral bacteria something to feed on.

Other tips for getting kissable breath include drinking plenty of water, consuming tea in place of coffee and eating dark chocolate, which has less sugar, the newspaper said.

Likewise, scraping your tongue can be a good way to get rid of food particles and bacteria, dentist David Mady told the Windsor Star. He added that chewing gum may cover oral odor, but it will not eliminate it.

To knock out bad breath and give yourself a shot at a knockout Valentine's kiss, it may be best to rinsing wish a specialty breath freshening product that neutralizes odors and moistens the mouth.
