While the numbers of individuals who occasionally or regularly experience bad breath continuing to remain high, many dentists across the country are reporting the issue as a "hot topic" among their patients.

Randall Platon, a dentist in Mountville, Pennsylvania, told the Intelligencer-Journal that most of his patients who are concerned with the problem don't broach the subject head-on with him. However many are eager to talk about ways to improve their breath once the topic of halitosis has been brought up.

He told the news source that many people suffer bad breath because of the bacteria in their mouths. These sulfur-releasing microbes can be difficult to control, which is why so many people have halitosis.

He added that improving oral hygiene is the most important thing that individuals can do to reduce their chances of developing bad breath.

Additionally, the American Dental Hygienists' Association recommends that sufferers of halitosis visit a dentist. The group says that oral care professionals will be able to diagnose the cause of bad breath and recommend steps that can fix the problem.
