In recent weeks, there has been a lot of talk in the news about tongue scrapers. From pop culture reference to breakthrough marketing success stories, the nation has become a little more aware of the potential benefits offered by tongue scrapers.
In fact, there is good reason for this. Tongue scrapers offer several advantages that traditional oral healthcare products lack. These may help improve individual's ability to clean areas that are difficult to reach and enable them to eliminate bad breath.
Many people's halitosis starts at the back of their mouths. Food particles and residue from sugary drinks can accumulate on the tongue and eventually form a white, sticky substance. Since most people do not brush their tongue, they are unlikely to remove this film. However, it is one of the leading causes of bad breath.
Tongue scrapers allow individuals to pick up where their toothbrush left off. Scientists from the American Association for Dental Research have found that up to 90 percent of all cases of bad breath are caused by tongue bacteria, according to Reuters. Using a tongue scraper may help remove much of the material that these bacteria thrive upon.
