Tonsil stones are a silent cause of bad breath

Many people struggle with bad breath without ever finding the root cause the problem. These individuals may want to consider checking to see if they have developed tonsil stones.

Due in part to the fact that fewer people are having their tonsils removed, tonsil stones have become a growing problem. These small deposits of calcified debris can be a cause of halitosis that few people are aware of.

They often have a high concentration of sulfur which can lead to an unpleasant aroma from the mouth. A recent study from the National Center for Biotechnology Information looked into the depth of the problem posed by tonsil stones.

Researchers found that 75 percent of those who had abnormally high concentrations of sulfur in their mouths also had tonsil stones. They concluded that the presence of these growths represents a tenfold increase in the risk of bad breath.

Tonsil sones occasionally clear up on their own, but many individuals need special treatments to rid themselves of the growths. There are lines of specialty products that can help remove the growths and freshen breath at the same time.
