Snacking can encourage halitosis

A survey conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture found that nearly 42 percent of respondents eat between-meal snacks three or more times a day.
Eaters also reported consuming sugary foods when snacking. The department estimated that 39 percent of the average respondent's sugar intake came from snacks.
Snacking can affect digestive, cardiovascular and oral health alike. By supplementing meals with three or more snacks every day, individuals constantly coat their tongues and teeth with food particles. Oral bacteria use these bits of food to generate the odors of halitosis.
Furthermore, snacking without afterward cleansing one's mouth with a specialty rinse can leave teeth open to decay. Tartar and cavities can give off a pungent smell, in addition to causing discomfort and even health complications.
To prevent bad breath caused by snacking, individuals may use a specialty breath freshening product to cleanse the teeth and tongue.
