Bad breath smelling robots developed in Japan
Have you ever wanted to ask a friend if you have bad breath, but are afraid of the answer they may give you? In the future you could have your very own robot tell you whether or not your breath stinks. Japanese robot manufacturer CrazyLabo worked with the Kitakyushu National College of Technology to create two different robots: One with the capability to let you know if you have good or bad breath, and another that will test the stench of your feet.
According to The Ashahi Shimbun, CrazyLabo developed robots that use exaggerated reactions and snarky phrases to diagnose bad breath of their owner with phrases that range depending on the level of odor. The robot, a blue-eyed and brunette female named Kaori-chan, has sayings such as: "It smells like citrus," "No way! I can't stand it," and "Emergency! There's an emergency taking place! That's beyond the limit of patience." Users are intended to breathe into the robots face, and she then will analyze the components and give it a rating of one to four.
The robot was created after Kennosuke Tsutsumi, the president of CrazyLabo, visited the Tohoku region after it was hit by the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011. He hoped to bring back laughter to the region, and used common issues that he experienced, like bad breath and smelly feet, as inspiration. Tsutsumi partnered with Takashi Takimoto, an associate professor of mechanical engineering at the Kitakyushu National College of Technology, to build the robots. After three months of development, the two robots were completed in February. The next project in the works is a robot whose nose grows when a person lies to it, which will be able to monitor brain waves to determine a lie.
While you may not have a robot to tell you whether or not you have bad breath right now, there are ways that you can ensure a stinky mouth stays away for good. The Multi-Symptom ProBiotic Breath Treatment Kit from TheraBreath has all the important products that will keep bad breath at bay and encourage healthy gums and teeth. In addition, you'll have mouth-wetting lozenges that combat dry mouth on-the-go. Along with using the oxygenating toothpaste and mouthwash, you can make sure that you don't have to worry about needing a robot to let you know that your breath is minty fresh!
